Curriculum

Learning Objectives (Primary 1 to Primary 6)

1. Our goal is to develop students' language skills in listening, speaking, reading, writing, and practical application. We aim to enrich students' integrated learning experiences and create an immersive language-learning environment for Putonghua.

2. Lower Primary (Primary 1 to Primary 3): Focus on Foundational Phonetics

  • Primary 1: Acquire an initial grasp of initials and simple finals, and recognize the blending of initials, simple finals, and tones.
  • Primary 2: Master the spelling rules for initials and certain compound finals, while consolidating knowledge of these compound finals.
  • Primary 3: Master the spelling rules for initials, simple finals, and selected compound finals, and become proficient in standard Putonghua grammar.

Upper Primary (Primary 4 to Primary 6): Focus on Practical Application The curriculum emphasizes the practical application of Putonghua. It consolidates students' understanding of initials, finals, and Pinyin spelling rules, while strengthening their listening and speaking abilities. Students are trained to fluently express their opinions and deliver thematic presentations in Putonghua.

3. Teaching Approaches by Grade

Primary 1 & 2: Learning daily vocabulary and expressions through singing and games.

Primary 3 & 4: Conducting thematic presentations on daily topics through projects and role-playing.

Primary 5 & 6: Practicing mock secondary school admission interviews through speech and public speaking formats.

4. Cross-Curricular Learning & Cultural Appreciation

  • Collaboration with the Chinese Language Subject: Students recite poetry and read articles in Putonghua. This strengthens their oral reading skills and fosters a deeper appreciation for Chinese culture.

5. Cultural Exploration: Student Putonghua Ambassadors lead activities at the "Putonghua Corner" during recess, guiding their peers to immerse themselves in Chinese culture.
